About the event

As requested by the UNESCO headquarters in Paris and Slovak Commission for UNESCO in 2016, UNESCO Chair in Bioethics (University of Prešov, Slovakia) undertook the organization of the first UNESCO Philosophy Day in Slovakia on the occasion of World Philosophy Day, which UNESCO commemorates every year, on the third Thursday of November. 

Since 2017, Philosophy Day/Night performs as a full-featured festival of philosophy with its steady base location at Wave – center of independent culture, Hlavná street 121, Prešov. Its stabile organizing team of philosophy enthusiasts ranging from active academics to active researchers desires to propagate philosophical freedom and the relevance and importance of philosophy on an all-society scale, as well as to boost public awareness of philosophy and its place in today’s culture.

The festival aims to emphasize and honour many contributions of philosophy and its unsubstitutable role in the process of individual or societal development, or in relation to the creation of individual or cultural paradigms. The dramaturgy of the event comprises of public lectures, textual seminars and interactive workshops aiming to introduce the public to fundamentals, as well as to specifics, of philosophical, ethical or aesthetical thought.
